MALC Spring Specialty Shows
Dude Ranch Pet Resort

On March 13 and 14, the Mid-Atlantic Leonberger Club hosted its 38th and 39th LCA-sanctioned Regional Specialty shows, as well as an AKC judge education seminar. Nestled in bucolic central Virginia, northwest of Richmond, the Dude Ranch Pet Resort was the show site. With its beautiful fully matted and air-conditioned indoor ring and crating area, the Dude Ranch welcomed the Leonberger community back for another wonderful event. 60 Leonbergers were entered, our largest entry to date, from as far away as Michigan, New York, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Saturday's conformation judge was one of the LCA's founding members and past LCA President, Mary Decher. After the show, Mary presented a judge's education seminar for visiting AKC judges, along with Alida Greendyk and Agi Hejja, both LCA judges as well. The show and seminar were attended by a number of AKC judges, who then had the opportunity to put their hands on a variety of Leonbergers afterward and talk to the owners and handlers. It was a wonderful experience for owners and judges alike, and we sincerely appreciate the time taken by the judge, seminar presenters, and the visiting AKC judges who took time out of their busy schedules to observe and learn about what aspects of this breed we value, cherish and wish to preserve.
Sunday's conformation judge was AKC judge and Newfoundland breeder Brenda Santiago. She took her time with the dogs, put a lot of thought into her written evaluations of every dog, and was friendly and encouraging to every participant, and to the stewards and helpers.
The weekend also included a MALC club meeting, non-regular classes for baby puppy and spay/neuter Leos, our famous raffle table, fantastic trophies and gorgeous rosettes, and plenty of first class fellowship. Our sincere thanks to all who assisted, prepared, attended, donated raffle items, and sponsored trophies and rosettes. We couldn't have done it without you all.

MALC Fall Specialty Shows and AKC Fun Match

Saturday morning started out somewhat muggy and warm, but fortunately we were showing indoors in air-conditioning! We had an excellent raffle table, loaded with wonderful offerings, along with a special raffle provided by LIN to be drawn at our show from tickets purchased previously. After the Specialty show on Saturday we had an AKC Fun Match, then a MALC membership meeting, and then a MALC board meeting. We continued on Sunday morning with our second Specialty show.
Thanks to all the people who took their Leonbergers into the ring, some of whom braved the show ring for the first time! We had Leos entered from 8 states as well as DC with an average of 43 entries per show. We appreciate the generous donations from everyone for sponsorships of trophies, rosettes, dog treats and raffle items.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who scribed, stewarded, registered, assisted, set-up, broke-down, cleaned up, and generally kept things running. Special thanks to our Show Chair, Brenda Frye for all of her hard work again this season.

MALC Spring Specialty Shows and AKC Fun Match

This weekend it poured a steady rain and was a damp and chilly 40-ish degrees in central Virginia, but the Mid-Atlantic Leonberger Club's Spring Regional Specialty and AKC Fun Match was a success. Held indoors at the Dude Ranch Pet Resort in Glen Allen (just northwest of Richmond), we were dry despite the weather! We had Leos as far away as NJ and NC, as well as VA, DC and MD. We even had visitors from other states who came to spend the weekend among Leos and their people.
Enormous thanks to Show Chair Brenda Frye and her son Eric for their hard work with this event (and the awesome trophies!). Thanks as well to all the other members of the club for their efforts. Our whole crew pitched in with their usual enthusiasm and left the show site as clean as it was when we arrived. The raffle was fun, too!

MALC 2008 Fall Specialty and Southeast Region Member Sponsors Fall Specialty

The 2008 Mid-Atlantic Regional Fall Specialty was held in conjunction with the Southeast Member Sponsors Specialty at the Dude Ranch Pet Resort on October 11 & 12, 2008. The MALC shows were held on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and the SRMS shows in the afternoons. The Dude Ranch Pet Resort was a new venue for us, and it was spectacular! The room was large and comfortable, with space for all our Leos and some visiting other breeds, plus a huge ring. Thanks to this great facility for having us!
There was a terrific representation of Leos from VA, PA, NJ, MA, NY, DC and NC. We were delighted that some folks came from so far away to support the breed and our club. There was also a large class of baby puppies, which didn't fail to amuse us as we watched them play (sometimes in the ring)!

scribes, stewards, and exhibitors. And to everyone who helped make the weekend
so special.
