Leonberger Health

Leonberger Health Foundation International

The LHFI is an independent non-profit charitable foundation formed to assist the global Leonberger community. They raise and distribute money to fund canine research that increases the knowledge and understanding of canine diseases, and other factors that affect the vitality and viability of Leonbergers. The volunteers of the LHFI work tirelessly to fulfill the vision of the organization's founder, Waltraut Zieher, to improve the quality of life, health, and longevity of  Leonbergers.

OFA and Health Screening

The OFA recommends the following basic health screenings for Leonbergers. Leos meeting these basic health screening requirements will be issued Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) numbers. For CHIC certification, all results do not need to be normal, but they must all be in the public domain so that responsible breeders can make more informed breeding decisions. For potential puppy buyers, CHIC certification is a good indicator the breeder responsibly factors good health into their selection criteria. CHIC is not all-encompassing. There are many other health concerns affecting Leonbergers that cannot be screened. protocol available.
